Worth writing about
- A species figure looks wrong. This is the most useful message you can send. Name the species, the field, and what you think it should be — a source makes it far quicker to act on. Adult size and minimum tank length are the two most likely to need correcting.
- A compatibility verdict you would argue with. Tell me which pair and why. If the hobby genuinely splits on it, the right fix is usually to soften the verdict to a caution and say so in the note, rather than to flip it.
- A species that should be in the database. Commonly kept and commonly sold is the bar. Anything I cannot verify properly stays out, so the more sourcing you can point at, the better.
- Something is unclear. If a label sent you to the wrong number, that is a defect in the tool, not in you.
What I cannot help with
I cannot diagnose a sick fish, tell you why your tank crashed last week, or identify a fish from a photograph with any confidence. For a sick animal, find a vet who treats fish — they exist, and there are more of them than people assume. For a diagnostic emergency, an active forum with people looking at your actual test results will beat any website.
Shops and breeders
You are welcome to use these tools at the counter with customers, and several of you already do. I do not sell advertising placements, sponsored species entries or listings of any kind, so please do not ask. If you spot a figure that does not match what you see in your own tanks, though, that is exactly the message I want.
